Luckily it's not as "chilly" in Chile!

About a week ago J was contacted by the Orquesta Filarmonica de Santiago (with your best accent read, Philharmonic Orchestra of Santiago for all you gringos out there) to perform there as Associate Principal Trumpet for 2 months. This is the theater's website for any of you J groupies out there- www.municipal.cl

After figuring all the details out with the Dean at school, as well as life details, we have finally made an official decision to go for it! Yesterday we bought our plane tickets- ouch!- and are planning necessary details to go live in beautiful Santiago for a little while.

Teatro Municipal- The hall for the orchestra, opera and ballet.

Inside Teatro Municipal

Reactions have been quite varied:
J- stoked to be getting paid to play the trumpet, even for two months.
A- fun to brush up my spanish and eat latin food again...wait, what are we thinking?!
C- ba, ba, ba, da, da, da, da, yeah! (with clapping)
J's students (at local high school)- (And I quote) "Why are you going to Africa?"

One of the biggest pros of this whole thing is that we leave freezing winter with temperatures in the 10's and sometimes 20's on a warm day, go south of the equator where it's summer, turning fall, and come back right as the spring in Michigan decides to come around! Yeah for 2 extra months of non-freezing weather!

So who out there has been to Santiago...where should we go, what should we do? And most importantly, what do we "have to" eat?!

What an AMAZING opportunity! I am so excited for you guys. Technically I've been to Santiago, but only to the airport. Right over those Andes mountains is Mendoza, Argentina . . .where I served my mission! There you'll find Aconcagua - the highest peak in the western hemisphere, the little mountain town of Uspallata where the movie Seven Years in Tibet was filmed, and acres and acres of vineyards.

Be sure to keep us all updated on your adventures there.

Wow! Way to go Jason! How does Chile know you? And that is so awesome that you are all going. How brave! Where will you live? How soon do you leave? Does C have a passport? I don't envy all those details you have to figure out!

How cool for you guys!! My dad served his mission there and went back for a while a couple years ago. I'll ask him about the food "must-eats". When do you leave?

Wow! How exciting for you guys! I'm sure this is only the first of many trips around the world for you and your family. You will get to see so many cool places! How fun. I have no advice for you--sorry. I've never even been outside the US!
