The Bergman blog went into hibernation this week. For a week or so we had family visiting us in our royal 'summer home' in Santa Barbara.
Jason's mother and grandmother were here from Dallas for almost a week, and we had many, many adventures!

Yesterday we went to the Natural History Museum to see an exhibit called, "Butterflies Alive." This was a must on our list of things to do since Jason's mother LOVES butterflies. At the exhibit they had a large netted dome filled with certain plants to attract specific butterflies. They claimed to have more than 1,000 butterflies all within this dome.

As you can see in the pictures, there were many different species, and it was so full of butterflies that it was common to have one land on you or on a bench or near by flower so that you could closely inspect it. We all loved seeing these butterflies. (The picture above is not my favorite of myself AT ALL- but feedback from family asked to see more pictures of yours truly, therefore, the not so great picture of me! I didn't even know I was posing- oh, well!)

Almost better than seeing the butterflies was watching Caitlin closely follow and reach for butterflies nearby. I have no doubt in my mind that if we let her grab one, she would have had crunchy wings in her mouth in no time!

That afternoon, Caitlin desperately needed to nap, so our visitors went on to the Teddy Bear and Doll Museum, three blocks away from our house. They said there were hundreds of dolls and bears and had a personal tour of each and every one from the owner of the museum. (This was neat, but kind of overkill for them. I guess it's not a busy place!)
Once sleeping beauty awoke, we picked up Daddy-O and went to the Santa Barbara Courthouse, which is a magnificently beautiful buidling. Jason commented that it's the only courthouse you would ever want to go to! Quite true! There is a four-story tower in the courthouse, which we are perched on in this next picture.
You could see all of Santa Barbara from the top of the tower. Behind us is the view of the ocean about a mile behind us. I'll include more pictures from the courthouse in the next post...hope you can wait!

I'm not sure if my first comments "took" or not. Anyway, loved the butterfly story and photos - and you're right - looks like Caitlin just loved them. There is a butterfly garden over at Powell Gardens - if it's not too hot, we'll have to add it to our list of things to do when you're here! Happy day love mom
