As all can tell from previous pictures, the weather here in SB has been PERFECT the whole time we have been here- well, almost perfect. You know, I was really enjoying the sunny days with blue skies and 70 degree weather, while all my family and friends have been suffering in sweltering heat. However, I have recently become aware of the importance of rain. It has maybe sprinkled for 30 minutes of one morning during the last 2+ months, not what you would really consider much of anything, no matter who you are.
As of July 4th, a fire began just over the mountains. This is called the Zaka Fire. I had no idea it had even begun, or was happening, until a little over a week ago, and it looked like it was snowing outside the house we were staying in. I thought that was more than strange, not to mention impossible! I walked around the house, and discovered that it was ash falling from the sky! This view is from the harbor down on the beach, but we were staying much closer to that mountain ridge in the background, which got me a little concerned. After doing some research and making a phone call, I discovered that certain areas were under evacuation orders, and that if we needed to be evacuated they would contact us directly- whew! The last big fire in SB was in the early 90's. We know a few families who lost their homes and physical possessions. Thankfully, we know of no one loosing their home as of yet.
The moral of the story...you can't have 'perfect' weather and eat your cake too! Enjoy what you have, as much as you can. Also, everywhere you can see beautiful sunsets- not just in SB with it's perfect weather!
